
Jazmine Sullivan is a native of in and brought up within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam the mother of Jazmine is a former backing singer with Philadelphia International Records. When she was five years old, of age, her dad landed in the role of curator for City's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family relocated to the landmark historical building. In 2005 she graduated from Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in the class of a major in vocal music. Sullivan started singing in children's chorus as a contralto, and then she joined the adult choir a few years afterwards. His exposure to secular music was not extensive at first "I performed solos at the church and was approached by someone to be a part of the gospel label at age was eleven but I wasn't at the point of doing that," she recalls. "Then when McDonald's was hosting a contest for kids in major cities I had the opportunity to sing 'Accept What God Allows' on It's Showtime in the Apollo and the audience loved it". When she was 13 years old, she performed with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday celebration. Sullivan was the first to sign her contract with Jive Records when she was fifteen. When she was 15 she signed with Jive Records. She made the entire album and it didn't get released. Sullivan was later dropped on the labels. The singer maintained a relationship with Missy Elliott she produced a number of the tracks from her debut, including the buzz single "Backstabbers" that was written and produced by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
